Why is keyshot always crashing when 3d painting?

Hi everyone, I have a trouble

I’m making jewelry renders and I used the 3d painting tool to add some imperfections, however every time I open the file I get this window and at the end I just click ok, the scene appears but what I have done in 3d paint is not applied.

If I try to use it again the whole scene crashes and the same thing happens.

That warning at the top is saying you saved a scene in a different/newer version than you use to open it. I would use the newer/same version to open it. Seems you have multiple versions installed which ain’t a big problem but sometimes the default keyshot which opens on double click on a .bip is an older one which can give issues like it states.

I did have the same happening with 3D paint in the past. If I recall correctly, it happened often if I imported a 3D painted object (.bip) inside another scene.

It’s been a while since I used 3D paint so not sure how stable it is currently. If you like me to try to load a scene which crashes at your place feel free to send me a PM.

You are right Oscar, I imported a 3d painted object from other scene :0 I don’t get the error if I don’t do the import, so I guess keyshot should review it for future versions.

I have the latest version of keyshot and it seems strange to me that I get this message if I haven’t changed my account.

This scene already has the error every time I open it but I simply removed 3d paint from my graph material and had to use Curvature to simulate the work a bit.

The message is odd indeed if you don’t have another version installed. Maybe contact support and also mention the bug to them so it gets in their system. It should be there but doens’t harm to report.

I’m not sure how high on the priority list 3D paint is right now but if you like to add wear/tear and want to be in full control Substance Painter is a really nice tool for such textures.

Takes a bit of time to get used to it but it’s really good in creating realistic wear/tear using things like smart masks which will be based on curvature/occlusion/thickness etc of an object.

Once you know your way around it’s a really fun program to use and weather you export a complete set of textures or just some masks to be used in KS afterwards depends on yourself.

Because the way Substance Painter works, it does need to have an UV-map present. It can automatically fix those but I always try to make my own.
